OKLAHOMA CITY —The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office is teaming with a private data company to provide free document shredding in Oklahoma City.

The shredding will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the west-side parking lot of the attorney general’s office, located just southwest of the Capitol.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt will announce this year’s winner of the Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award, and consumer protection experts will discuss topics like fraud and identity theft.

Pruitt says shredding financial and personal documents is a key step in avoiding identity theft. He also suggested destroying any documents with credit card or bank account information, along with pre-approved credit card applications.
